Background:

The wild edible plant project is funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) and implemented by the American University of Beirut (AUB). The project aims to improve the health of the rural poor through the promotion, preservation and the sustainable use of wild edible plants at the national and regional levels and investigating policy options to improve dietary diversity by incorporating wild edible plants to the diet.

Part of the project objectives is to hold a regional workshop to introduce regional researchers in the field of wild edible plant to the work of one another and set the grounds for a regional collaboration.

Specific Contribution:

The invited regional partners are expected to focus on three axes:

1. Indigenous knowledge regarding identification and use of wild edible plants

2. Setup of a regional database on wild edible plants including all relevant scientific knowledge

3. Investigation on policy options for wild edible plants in improving dietary diversity and food security at the regional level
